(Joseph Tunney/CBC)The on-and-off shutdowns that have disrupted travel on the O-Train’s Line 1 all summer will continue until at least early fall, OC Transpo says.The latest changes come as OC Transpo appears poised to begin testing out the entire eastern extension in mid-September.After previously announced work on Aug. 31 proved successful, Line 1 was shut down Sept. 13-14 so that test trains can run between Tunney’s Pasture and Trim station.R1 replacement buses ran on the weekend between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations, along with the usual shuttle bus service between St-Laurent and Cyrville stations.Work also took place that weekend on the leaky St-Laurent station tunnel.The transit agency’s website says the east extension is slated to launch this year.This City of Ottawa graphic explains the O-Train disruptions that will occur in September 2025 and the first week of October 2025. (City of Ottawa)Maintenance work disruptionsRideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) will also be performing work on Line 1 between Sept. 26 and Oct. 5.That means there will be no Line 1 service at all after 8 p.m. on Sept. 26, nor will trains be running on Oct. 4 or Oct. 5.There will also be late-night disruptions on Sept. 27 and from Sept. 29 until Oct. 2, OC Transpo said, with service only available from one platform at some stations after 11:30 p.m.RTM’s work includes replacing rails between Rideau and uOttawa stations, and rail grinding across the entire system.They’ll also be upgrading the cables that support the overhead catenary system, as well as doing general maintenance and seasonal cleaning.
