(Ontario Provincial Police)A driver testing the limits of their Smart car’s cargo capacity earned a ticket from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Carleton Place on Monday.OPP said the driver was stopped at County Road 29 and McNeely Avenue because they were attempting to transport a ladder that protruded several metres from the open hatch of their compact vehicle.They were given a ticket for an improperly loaded vehicle, police said. OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson told CBC News there was no way a ladder that long could have been safely secured in a vehicle that small.Fines for a conviction under this section of the Highway Traffic Act range from $100 to $200, and the driver can have their licence suspended for up to 60 days.In this case, OPP said the part of the ladder inside the vehicle was also dangerously close to interfering with the driver’s space.
