(Jean-Sebastien Marier/CBC)A 32-year-old man has been charged with assault following an investigation by the hate and bias crime unit, according to the Ottawa Police Service.Police responded around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday to calls about an “unprovoked assault” in the 3000 block of Carling Avenue, according to a press release issued 6 p.m. Wednesday.The victim was a woman wearing a hijab, according to a community incident report issued earlier Wednesday. She was “approached by a man shouting hate slurs” at a gas station on Carling Avenue, police wrote.The 32-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with two counts of hate-motivated assault, according to the press release, which was posted as an update to the report.Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with more information should contact the hate and bias crime unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5015.
