Steve Addison told CBC News that paramedics first responded to calls of a person in medical distress — and they asked for police assistance when it emerged the injury could be due to a crime.Addison said the man, who has not been identified by police, died of his stab wounds in hospital. So we’re having to work back to identify him through other means,” he said.”And I’m confident that we will be able to do that, but it’s just taking a little bit longer than it normally would have.”VPD Sgt. (CBC)Police do not believe the fatal stabbing was random or completely unprovoked, Addison said, and there was a “prior interaction” between the victim and the assailant.”But what their relationship was, whether they knew each other or how well they knew each other, is something that we’re yet to confirm,” he said.Addison said police believe the crime happened close to where the victim was found in the heart of the Granville Entertainment District.”Lots of people around, lots of sources of evidence, including the obvious video cameras from businesses, people on the street,” he said.”And without getting into specifics about the evidence that we’ve secured, I can tell you that we’re looking at all of that.”The intersection is seen the day after the stabbing.
