(Submitted by RCMP)RCMP have charged a woman and are still searching for a man in connection with an alleged kidnapping in northern Manitoba.The victim. 25, met with police on the morning of Sept. 29 and told them she had just escaped from a vehicle after being held against her will at a residence for the past 48 hours.She said she met a man and woman at a bar in Thompson, and the three of them drank together. The woman believes she had been drugged, as she later woke up in a vehicle as it pulled into Gillam, more than 200 kilometres away, police said in a news release on Thursday.The woman said she was forcefully taken inside a residence where, over the next 48 hours, she was repeatedly assaulted, had a gun pointed at her and was threatened with physical harm if she tried to leave, the release says.On the morning of Sept. 29, the victim was put into a vehicle again and driven to a grocery store where the pair she has accused of kidnapping her went to pick up food, RCMP said.The woman escaped from the vehicle and called police, who met with her at a business in Gillam.Police say they spent the week investigating the incident and, on Oct. 7, arrested a 41-year-old woman from Gillam and charged her with kidnapping with a firearm, forcible confinement and theft.They identified the man but haven’t been able to find him. They believe he left Gillam and have issued an arrest warrant for Riley Champagne, 36. He faces charges kidnapping with a firearm, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, and other weapons-related offences.Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Gillam RCMP at 204-652-2200.Anonymous tips can also be called in to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submitted online.
