(BOLO Program)A man who once ranked 10th on Canada’s most wanted list appeared in Saskatoon court Friday to face a first-degree murder charge and a raft of other charges dating back to 2020.Jonathan Ouellet-Gendron, 36, was wanted by Saskatoon Police since May 2022, after a gun battle at an apartment complex in a residential neighbourhood killed 29-year-old Brandon Baxandall. Two other people were also injured in the shooting.According to Saskatoon Police, Ouellet-Gendron was added to Canada’s Bolo program in May 2023. It was the first time Saskatoon police partnered with the program to catch someone.”At the time, he was the first person placed on this list for a crime committed in Saskatchewan,” police said in a release.Saskatoon police said they learned that Ouellet-Gendron was in Mexico in early August and then worked with the RCMP to arrest him once he returned to Canada.Ouellet-Gendron was arrested Saturday at the Montreal Trudeau Airport, more than three years after he was charged with first-degree murder for Baxandall’s death.He also faces multiple drug and weapons charges.ABOUT THE AUTHORKatie Swyers is a reporter with CBC Saskatchewan, based in Regina.
