(Jillian Renouf/CBC)A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after colliding with a moose near Chalk River early Wednesday morning, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.Officers responded just after 5 a.m. to the collision on Highway 17 between Chalk River and Petawawa, according to a release issued later that morning.The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, then airlifted to an Ottawa hospital by Ornge, police wrote. Police told CBC the moose was injured and put down at the scene.The stretch of highway between Petawawa and Chalk River is around 140 kilometres northwest of downtown Ottawa. It was shut down for the investigation, but had reopened as of 7:45 a.m.
