(CBC)Four ferry crossings between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia had to be cancelled Friday morning after a small fire in the crew kitchen of MV Northumberland.Northumberland Ferries Ltd. general manger Jeff Joyce said the fire started in a dishwasher on the ferry.The 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. crossings were cancelled. The Northumberland’s afternoon sailings were back on schedule starting with the 1:30 p.m. crossing.Joyce said that early Friday morning, vehicles had boarded the ferry in Wood Islands, P.E.I., but it was still at the dock when the fire broke out. Vehicles were guided back off the vessel.  MV Northumberland was moved to the secondary dock so that the company’s second vessel, MV Confederation, could complete its departures and arrivals as usual. ABOUT THE AUTHORMarilee Devries is a journalist with CBC P.E.I.
