(Government of New Brunswick)The province’s longest out-of-control fire is now listed as contained, with four other fires being patrolled.The Beaver Lake Stream fire has been out of control for 29 days and was listed on the province’s fire watch website as contained Thursday morning.The fire was first detected on Aug. 14, according to the province’s fire dashboard.Spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources Valerie Kilfoil said in an email that the fire is “considered 95 per cent contained.”The fire is still listed as 456 hectares in size and is just north of the Kennedy Lakes Protected Natural Area in Northumberland County.Natural Resources Minister John Herron has said previously that the fire is in rough terrain and difficult to get to.Kilfoil added that staff and equipment are still working in the area.According to the province’s website, a contained fire is surrounded by barriers like bulldozer breaks or hose lines, which are expected to keep it from spreading further if firefighting efforts continue. Though the fire is contained, it’s still actively burning with potential to jump or spread.Detected on Aug. 6, the Oldfield Road fire remains as the longest burning fire in the province. The over-1,400 hectare fire in the Miramichi area is listed as being patrolled and hasn’t been out of control since Aug. 18.There are five total fires in the province as of Thursday. On Aug. 17 there were 39 fires, with eight of them burning out of control.The other fires are the 218-hectare Chief’s fire in Northumberland County, the Rocky Brook fire in Restigouche county which is 204 hectares in size and fire 322 in York County that is two hectares.Burning is restricted to 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. AT for most of the province overnight.
