Photo by Tara Bradbury /Tara BradburyArticle contentThe child pornography case of a man recently sentenced in St. John’s for kidnapping is on pause in provincial court for six weeks.Lawyer Robert Hoskins, who represents 74-year-old Wilbur Jerome Crockwell, told the court on Wednesday, Oct. 8, that new information has come in on the file, and he requested time to review and discuss it with his client before proceeding any further.Crockwell is facing one charge each of making, accessing, and possessing child pornography.He is currently in his home province of New Brunswick, serving a 12-month house arrest sentence handed to him Aug. 13 for his role in the kidnapping of a teenaged girl in St. John’s in June 2023.The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary issued an Amber Alert in connection with the girl’s disappearance, after investigators learned she was going to meet Crockwell, who was on his way to this province to get her. The court accepted a joint submission for eight months house arrest for Bast. Crockwell told the court he had attempted to “protect” the girl from hitchhiking across three provinces to get to him by arranging a ride and a place for her to wait for him to collect her, and had not realized the impact his actions would have.
