(Katelin Belliveau/CBC)A judge has ordered that a bail hearing be held on Oct. 1 for a man accused of stabbing an RMCP officer in the head.Edva Mascary, 35, is facing eight charges in total, including attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbed Const. Marc-Antoine Latouche in August.The Moncton resident is also charged with assaulting other officers and resisting arrest, as well as threatening to kill a civilian at the scene. During a Sept. 5 appearance, the Crown added a new charge of aggravated assault in relation to Latouche’s injuries.Mascary has appeared several times by video in Moncton provincial court since he first told Judge Paul Duffie he was seeking bail in late August. The initial bail hearing date was Aug. 29After a brief appearance on Wednesday, Duffie reset Mascary’s bail hearing for Wednesday, Oct. 1.Supt. Benoit Jolette, the commanding officer of the Codiac Regional RCMP, recently shared new details about what happened during the early hours of Aug. 15.Police previously said they had responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Fairisle Drive in Moncton late on Aug. 14. He faces eight charges, including attempted murder, after an RCMP officer suffered head injuries. At two separate public meetings earlier this month, Jolette said the initial call was for a dispute between roommates.He also said the officer who tried to arrest Mascary was stabbed in the head and neck three times.A previous statement by the RCMP released shortly after charges were laid said the officer was taken to hospital with severe but non-life threatening injuries. RCMP told CBC News in an email in August that Latouche had returned to work. However, Jollet later confirmed that Latouche was actually not yet back on duty.ABOUT THE AUTHORKatelin Belliveau is a CBC reporter based in Moncton.
