The new home will feature smaller, self-contained households, each with its own dining, living, and activity spaces, along with private rooms and washrooms for every resident.Article contentAdditional amenities will include community gathering areas, a hair salon, a wellness and rehabilitation space, and outdoor courtyards.Article content“This is one of the most important moments I’ve had as mayor,” said Dicks. “We’re bringing something to New Glasgow that is critical for what a thriving community needs. I couldn’t be happier to be able to make their community just that bit more complete.”Article contentArticle contentThe new Long-Term Care Home will be owned by the Town of New Glasgow, following a transition in ownership from the current structure of the four municipal owners of Glen Haven Manor Corporation. Article content“Today is a truly remarkable moment, both for me and all of Pictou County,” said Glen Haven Manor Board Chair Jocelyn Dorrington. “My thoughts turn to Betty Jean Sutherland, who passed away in 2021. She was a tireless advocate for seniors and long-term care, and she was thrilled to hear that Glen Haven Manor was on the list for replacement. She was a strong advocate for public service and had a dedication unwavering to long-term care. The members of Glen Haven Manor have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to go above and beyond the call of duty, and that’s what sets the standard.”Article contentThe new facility is being managed by High-Crest Enterprises, which will oversee the construction and manage operations once the new home opens. The project is scheduled to start construction within the coming weeks and is expected to be completed by February of 2029.Article content“We have fallen behind in this province,” said Houston. “This is an important step in catching up to where we should be, which is why we have a goal to build 5700 new single rooms for people.
