The event is an opportunity for members of the community to come and meet their local police and ask them questions in a relaxed environment.Article contentArticle content“Community engagement needs to be a priority,” said Constable Ken MacDonald of the New Glasgow Police. “It’s a casual atmosphere where we get some feedback from the public. It’s been very successful so far; half a dozen people came and spoke with us. We’re just getting started getting people accustomed to this, and we appreciate this chance to talk.”Article contentArticle contentCoffee with a Cop is an event held across North America, with over 50 states and provinces participating. The New Glasgow Police have been participating for over a year now, visiting many different coffee shops in the process.Article content“We have been asked a wide variety of questions during these sessions,” MacDonald said. “From crime rates to how the drug situation is in New Glasgow, we answer many general questions. We get lots of feedback as well, which we can use strategically to help with combating crime, or even on our regular patrols. Article content“The feedback we’ve received so far has been helpful and positive, showing we are going in the right direction with these.”Article contentThe next session of Coffee with a Cop is expected to take place sometime in November, with a date and time to be announced on Facebook at a later point.Article content
