William (Billy) McNutt, 40, of Lantz is now accused of sexually abusing a third woman.Article contentArticle contentThe Serious Incident Response Team announced the latest charge against McNutt on Monday.Article contentA SIRT news release said the agency received a referral from RCMP in November 2024 after a woman alleged she had been sexually assaulted in May 2024 by an officer she knew.Article contentArticle contentThe investigation led to the charge being laid against McNutt on Monday, SIRT said.Article contentMcNutt will be arraigned on the new charge Aug. 11 in Shubenacadie provincial court.Article content“As the matter is before the courts, SIRT will not provide any further comment on the investigation,” the release said.Article contentThe six-foot-eight McNutt grew up in Cumberland County and played professional basketball in Europe for several seasons before joining the RCMP in 2021.Article contentHe was a member of the East Hants RCMP detachment until January 2024, when he was suspended after a different woman alleged she had been sexually assaulted in early 2023 by an officer she knew.Article contentRCMP referred the matter to SIRT, which commenced an investigation. SIRT announced last July that McNutt had been charged with three counts of sexual assault and single counts of overcoming resistance by choking and uttering threats.Article contentArticle contentSIRT alleges McNutt committed the offences in Enfield while off duty.Article contentMcNutt pleaded not guilty to the charges last November and is scheduled to stand trial in Shubenacadie provincial court this October.Article contentLast November, Cumberland County RCMP laid two charges of sexual assault against McNutt.Article contentThe offences were allegedly committed against a woman in Northport, Cumberland County, on July 31, 2019, more than two years before McNutt joined the Mounties.Article content“The investigation shows the survivor was sexually assaulted . . . by a man she had met a couple of weeks before through mutual friends,” a December 2024 RCMP news release said.Article contentMcNutt has also pleaded not guilty to the Cumberland County matters. That trial is set for January 2026 in Amherst provincial court.Article contentAssistant Commissioner Dennis Daley, commanding officer of the RCMP in Nova Scotia, released a statement Monday saying McNutt is suspended without pay.Article content“These additional criminal charges . . . are extremely alarming and distressing,” Daley said. “We’re fully co-operating with SIRT, and an internal code-of-conduct process is ongoing.”Article contentHe said the police force takes all allegations of misconduct by its members seriously.Article content“Our employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that exceeds the high expectations Canadians rightly have of us,” Daley said.Article contentMcNutt is free on undertakings to officers with either SIRT or the RCMP that prohibit him from having contact with the complainants and some potential Crown witnesses.Article content
