NTI president Jeremy Tunraluk charged with assualt

Published 12:30 pm Thursday, December 4, 2025 The president of Nunavut’s largest Inuit association, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI), has been charged with assault and has been put on leave from his position. Jeremy Tunraluk was charged with assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm on Dec. 3, Nunavut RCMP said. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 15. The police said they’re not releasing any more information due the case being before the courts. A spokesperson for NTI said Tunraluk is on unpaid leave from his role as president. “We have been made aware that Jeremy Tunraluk was charged by the RCMP earlier this week, in a matter unrelated to his role with Nunavut Tunngavik. The NTI board of directors are taking this matter very seriously, and Mr. Tunraluk has been placed on unpaid leave,” NTI stated. NTI vice-president Paul Irngaut will serve as acting president until the board determines the appropriate next steps. Tunraluk was elected in December 2024 and was due to serve his term until 2028.
