(Sarah MacMillan/CBC)Prince Edward Islanders may want to get their shovels ready, with Environment Canada predicting the first significant snowfall of the season midweek.The agency has issued a special weather statement for all three P.E.I. counties, warning of snowfall beginning Tuesday afternoon and continuing until Wednesday afternoon.“Snow will develop late in the day Tuesday with the worst conditions expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning,” the special weather statement reads.“Slight deviations in the track of this system could change snowfall amounts significantly. Less snow is expected for some coastal areas as the snow will mix with or changeover to rain.”The weather agency said snowfall could reach 15 centimetres or more, with potential northeasterly wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h.“In some areas, especially the further east you are across the Island, we could see a little bit more of snow and a little bit less in the most western parts of Prince County, just because of the track of the system,” said CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin.With files from Island Morning
