The vehicle was travelling east at 124 km/h in a 70 km/h speed zone.Article contentThe officer activated the police vehicle’s overhead emergency lights and began to pursue the speeding vehicle. The speeding vehicle did not pull over and began to pull away from police as it approached Stratford. The officer radioed for assistance, turned off the overhead lights and disengaged the pursuit.Article contentPolice then saw the vehicle (driven by Dunn) enter the roundabout in Stratford (near the RCMP detachment), become slightly airborne and then crash into the curb. Dunn crawled out of the vehicle’s window. He identified himself to police as Jason Dunn, but an officer recognized him as Derrick Dunn. Another man was also inside the vehicle. The vehicle’s airbags were deployed and there was debris on the road.Article contentArticle contentArticle contentResisting arrestArticle contentPolice tried to arrest Dunn but he refused to be handcuffed. Dunn pushed the officer away and tried to run from police. He was caught, taken to the ground and handcuffed.Article contentAt the RCMP detachment, Dunn provided two breathalyzer samples of 120 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. Readings of 80 mg and above are a Criminal Code of Canada offence.Article contentMischief incidentArticle contentThe offences at the White Horse Motel in Cornwall – mischief for causing property damage and breach of probation – happened earlier on April 29. On that date at around 11:30 p.m., Dunn damaged a motel door when he tried to get inside a room occupied by a woman. Dunn also damaged two video surveillance cameras. The motel owner requested $1,207.50 in restitution for the damage.Article contentDunn had a prior criminal record. At the time of the offences, Dunn was on a two-year probation order and a five-year driving prohibition as a result of other court matters.
