He said that on March 25, 2025, Coady entered the Irving gas station and convenience store at 76 St. Peters Rd. wearing all black clothing, including a balaclava covering his face, sunglasses, winter gloves and a winter jacket with tears in the sleeve and pocket.Article contentArticle contentCoady waited in line at the counter behind a female customer. When she left, Coady approached the clerk at the counter and produced a hypodermic needle and threatened that it contained HIV. He then went behind the counter, took $320 from the cash register and drove away at 6:15 p.m. in a black Honda Civic with its licence plate removed.Article contentCharlottetown police reviewed video footage from the business and e-watch footage and tracked the Honda Civic as it drove to St. Pius X Avenue, Kensington Road and then to a parking lot on Sydney Street, where Coady is seen on video putting the licence plate back on the Honda Civic. Wearing the same clothing from the robbery, Coady then walks through the rear entrance of a building on Richmond Street where he lived in an apartment.Article contentBased on the police investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was registered to Coady. The following day on March 26, Coady was arrested in the parking lot of the Richmond Street building. Police also obtained a warrant to search his apartment and vehicle. Coady gave a statement and denied being involved in the robbery.Article contentArticle contentPolice reviewed further video footage on April 1 from a residential building that showed Coady at 6:02 p.m. on March 25 removing the vehicle’s licence plate just prior to the robbery. Also during the search, police seized the clothes Coady wore in the robbery.Article contentArticle contentPre-sentence report, adjournmentArticle contentJustice Gregory Cann granted defence lawyer Derek Bondt’s request and ordered a pre-sentence report for Coady. Pre-sentence reports discuss an offender’s background information and personal circumstances to assist the court.Article contentCann adjourned sentencing to Jan. 30, 2026. Coady did not have a prior criminal record.
