(Delaney Kelly/CBC)Thousands of people are in Cavendish, P.E.I., this weekend for Sommo Festival.It’s only in its third year, but for fans like Sarah Parsons, from Nova Scotia, the music festival has already become a must-see event. “We booked it a year in advance, I think.” Josh Pellerine came to the festival with Parsons and his wife, Jessica. It’s his first time, and he’s especially excited to see Hozier.The Irish singer-songwriter is one of about a dozen acts performing over the weekend. They include other big names like Alanis Morissette, who took to the stage Saturday night. “It’s amazing. I’m a musician and to see such large musicians like this come through in such a small town like Cavendish … it’s great for the Maritimes. It’s great for everybody,” said Pellerine. People don’t come just for the big names in music. The festival is also billed as a place to enjoy local food, with vendors coming from around the region.Kyle Conrad says his food truck has seen plenty of business. (Delaney Kelly/CBC)Kyle Conrad co-owns Halifax-based food truck Bud the Spud. “It’s a lot of fun,” he said.Conrad said festivals like this are great for vendors who want to branch out to other provinces.Organizers say up to 35,000 people from across Canada and the U.S. are expected to sample the tastes and sounds of Sommo over the weekend.
