Published 2:50 pm Friday, December 5, 2025 A Facebook post from the Municipality of Pangnirtung indicated the date of the next mayoral election, but that date has not been finalized, according to Elections Nunavut. The Municipality of Pangnirtung posted a job advertisement on Facebook stating the next mayoral election would be held on March 2, with an advanced poll on Feb. 23. However, Elections Nunavut said that no such date had been chosen. “I am working of the logistics. The date is not finalised yet,” said Kiran Situt, chief electoral officer at Elections Nunavut. The Facebook post from Dec. 3, which featured the Municipality of Pangnirtung’s advertisement for a returning officer to oversee the mayoral election, has now been deleted. On Dec. 8, the municipality posted the job advertisement on Facebook again, this time without identifying when the mayoral election would be held. “It will be released when logistics are done,” said MaryAnn Mike, Pangnirtung’s acting senior administrative officer. Residents will choose the successor to Lynn Mike, whose abrupt resignation was announced Dec. 3. In the meantime, the municipality is still hiring a returning officer. “We are seeking a responsible, impartial, and well-organized individual to serve as returning officer for the upcoming local byelection for mayor of Pangnirtung. This role is essential to ensuring that voting is conducted smoothly, securely and in accordance with local electoral laws with Elections Nunavut,” the municipality’s Dec. 8 Facebook post reads.
