Residents will choose the successor to Lynn Mike, whose abrupt resignation was announced Dec. 3. The Municipality of Pangnirtung announced on Dec. 5 a short-term job opportunity as a returning officer for a local byelection. The election date of March 2 and advanced poll date of Feb. 23 were listed on the job advertisement. “We are seeking a responsible, impartial, and well-organized individual to serve as returning officer for the upcoming local byelection for mayor of Pangnirtung. This role is essential to ensuring that voting is conducted smoothly, securely and in accordance with local electoral laws with Elections Nunavut,” the municipality’s Facebook post reads. Elections Nunavut has not responded to Nunavut News’ request for confirmation.
