(Travis Golby/CBC)Winnipeg police have reopened parts of the Disraeli Bridge in the city’s Point Douglas neighbourhood on Saturday afternoon after the area was blocked off as officers negotiated with a man believed to be armed.Just after 3:30 p.m. local time, police said in a post on X that the situation was resolved and the public was no longer at risk.No injuries have been reported.The pedestrian foot bridge and riverway have reopened, and vehicular traffic has resumed on the bridge.However, the Sutherland off-ramps remain closed, police said at 3:30 p.m.Police were called to Grove Street off Euclide Avenue after reports of gunshots around 5:30 a.m. Saturday.Several emergency vehicles were seen around the area on Saturday morning. (Travis Golby/CBC)The armed man, who is known to police, then moved from Grove Street to the Disraeli Bridge area.The heavy police presence included a tactical armoured vehicle and at least a dozen other police vehicles, with several officers on the scene.At a news conference early Saturday afternoon, Winnipeg Police Const. Dani McKinnon said people should stay away from the area.McKinnon was hopeful the matter would be resolved safely.”They have spent a number of hours with him now, communicating, building relationship as we do with crisis negotiation,” McKinnon said. “Part of it is getting to know that person and how we can help them.”McKinnon said incidents like don’t happen very often.
