(Supplied/MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais Police Service)Police have recovered the body of a 53-year-old man who drowned in the Ottawa River after attempting to rescue a woman in distress near Mohr Island.MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police announced they recovered the body of the man around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday with the help of Sûreté du Québec divers.Authorities did not release the man’s identity but said he was a resident of Quyon, Que.The man jumped from a pontoon to help a woman in the water on Sunday around 5:30 p.m., police said. He was not wearing a life jacket. The woman was rescued by another person, police told Radio-Canada.A search for the man continued into Sunday night, involving Ottawa police and boaters from Ottawa and the Pontiac, Que., area.A coroner’s inquest will be held, though police said signs indicate the man’s death was accidental.CBC Ottawa is aware of 18 local water deaths so far this year.with files from Benjamin Vachet
