For example, he clears a path to the government office and brushes off the church steps. The 59-year-old Enookolo also spends time taking calls from fellow residents of his hometown and cleaning their yards of garbage or debris. Enookolo said he takes care of up to two yards per day and doesn’t ask for compensation. His only motivation is to make Pond Inlet safe to walk around in, he said. “I want them to have no snow, rocks, or anything. To go anywhere and be good, to walk safely. That’s about all.” Even in the depths of winter, Enookolo said he remains undeterred. “I’m never cold, I’m a man,” he said. People in the community come up and thank Enookolo for his work on occasion, he said. He has been out of work since 2003 and has lived off government assistance in the intervening years. But he’s created his own job in town, and Enookolo said he doesn’t need any help cleaning up the streets.
