Sauvons l’industrie du camionnage are calling for the return of roadside checkpoints and an end to the use of illegal drivers. A post on the group’s Facebook page said they plan to meet at the IGA on La Vérendrye Boulevard and then at 5 a.m. start toward Hull via Highway 50.They’ll then cross the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge into Ottawa, before turning around and going back on the same route.In a social media post, the Ottawa Police Service said one lane of the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge will be temporarily closed from 6 a.m. until about 9 a.m.The post said the demonstration may impact morning commutes on both sides of the river and that people should expect slower traffic and delays on Dalhousie Street, Boteler Street, Sussex Drive, and King Edward Avenue.Police also said they will increase their presence so that all road users remain safe.In addition to Gatineau, protests are planned for the Montreal area, Quebec City, and Trois-Rivières.
