(Chris Fahlman/Facebook)A 42-year-old Regina man has been arrested and charged in the death of Tanya Myers, who was a passenger in an SUV when she was shot and killed on a highway near Weyburn, Sask., this fall.Chris Fahlman is charged with manslaughter with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence and being in a vehicle knowing there’s a firearm inside. He appeared virtually in Regina provincial court Monday, and the judge adjourned the matter to Tuesday.RCMP Insp. Ashley St. Germaine said police are not looking for another suspect in the case, but declined to say what information led to Fahlman’s arrest, if he was known to police and where the shot that killed Myers was fired from.St. Germaine confirmed that Fahlman was arrested in Regina Saturday, after a seven-week-long investigation by the RCMP major crimes unit.”We are not aware of any direct connection between the accused and the occupants and the two vehicles that were struck,” Germaine told a virtual news conference. Fahlman’s defence lawyer, Robert MacKay, urged the public to reserve judgment, saying everyone has a right to be presumed innocent.”With the arrest and charges only just laid, it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this time,” he said in an email to The Canadian Press. In a previous interview about the night Myers was killed, Morrice told CBC that the gunshot to her car was so loud she thought something had burst inside her ear.“When I looked and saw Tanya’s face, I could tell she was in a lot of pain and I right away just called 911,” she said. Tanya Myers and her friend were travelling back to Weyburn from Regina when their SUV was shot. Myers died at the scene from a gunshot wound. (Submitted by RCMP)Morrice said Myers knew what had happened.“It just really feels like I got shot,” Myers told Morrice.It wasn’t until paramedics arrived and were trying to revive Myers, whose pulse had stopped, that Morrice noticed a bullet hole in the back of her SUV.“I could see a hole coming through the back seat, going through the back of the passenger seat,” she said. The driver of a second SUV travelling along Highway 39 at the same time as Myers and Morrice reported to police that their vehicle had also been shot.RCMP say a bullet was found in that SUV’s tire.With files from The Canadian Press
