Article contentStatement of factsArticle contentAccording to the agreed statement of facts, Kik, an online messenger app owned by U.S.-based company MediaLab, reported on Sept. 3, 2024, to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children that one of its users had sent a video containing child pornography to another user on Aug. 23. Article contentThe information provided by Kik led investigators to an IP address located in Summerside. Article contentThe home address was where Rogers was living. Article contentIn 2023, he was sentenced for possession of child pornography and making sexually explicit materials available to a child. He was also sentenced in 2022 for luring a minor. As such, he was under what’s known as a 161 order, prohibiting him from having contact with any child under the age of 18 for 10 years. Article contentArticle contentPolice executed a search warrant at the home on Nov. 6, 2024 and seized Rogers’ computer and cellphone. Article contentRogers acknowledged to police that he was the owner of the suspect account and said the Kik group chat he belonged to required users to post URLs of child pornography to remain part of the group. Article contentRogers also acknowledged that he had been messaging and sexting with a 17-year-old girl from Nova Scotia. During their search of his phone, police found communications with this girl going back about three years, which meant she had been 14 or 15 years old when they had started messaging. Article contentPolice also found messages between Rogers and a 13-year-old girl from Texas, some of which included pornographic material. Some of the communications indicated that Rogers was in a relationship with this girl, that he had threatened suicide if they ever broke up and that they had signed a “death row contract”, which stated there was no way out of the relationship other than death.
