The municipality continues to work with the Town of Kentville and Town of Wolfville to explore the possibility of collaboratively building a new recreation complex for the region. We are more than three years into a project that is expected to take seven to eight years to complete.Project partners are aware there may be some outstanding questions following community-led meetings private citizens organized to garner support for a regional recreation complex. Any formal decisions about how or if the project proceeds will be made by each respective council.Municipal staff are assessing potential locations and preparing reports for the partnering councils to consider. If a site is approved, the next step would be to discuss the details of the facility, which would include more public engagement, and additional approvals from councils would also be required.Article contentThe proposed design for Phase 1 is based on a report that assessed the best ways to meet the recreational needs of the region. As it stands, the recommendation is to construct a complex that includes an aquatics facility with a 25-metre pool (and some additional features), gymnasium, walking/running track, and community space. An arena is not included in the proposed design for the first phase of development, and it is not currently on the table as a possible discussion point. The official source of information about this project is wolfvilleblooms.ca/regionalrecfacility. Folks with questions about the work completed to date are encouraged to reach out to the Municipality of the County of Kings, Town of Kentville or Town of Wolfville.Rob Frost is the deputy chief administrative officer with the Municipality of the County of Kings.Article content
