If he had gone forward, this would have required him to step down as interim leader of the party, as is required by the PC constitution, and as premier of the province.“Over the last number of weeks, I’ve had many conversations with people from across the province. I appreciate the support from those who encouraged me to reconsider my original position,” Lantz wrote in the post.“However, after much consideration, the best decision for Islanders and the PC party is to continue my role as interim leader until the party selects a new permanent leader.”Lantz said he will remain dedicated to serving as premier for the time being.The PC leadership race is in a sort of pre-season period, with no party-approved candidates but two declared challengers. Montague-Kilmuir MLA Cory Deagle and lawyer Mark Ledwell both say they intend to run for the job.The PC party has yet to set out a timeline for a leadership vote, although it has released a rulebook for the contest.A poll released this week by Narrative Research shows 62 per cent of P.E.I. voters were satisfied with the performance of the Lantz-led PC government.Stay informed: Don’t miss the news you need to know.
