Roll up your sleeves: Bookings for respiratory illness vaccinations begin in Sask.

SaskatchewanAs of Tuesday, fall influenza bookings have opened in Saskatchewan. (Joe Raedle/Getty)As of Tuesday, Saskatchewan has officially opened seasonal immunization bookings for fall respiratory illnesses. The province is urging residents to protect themselves and others against influenza and COVID-19 to stay healthy and prevent illness as the weather changes.Immunizations are free and available for all Saskatchewan residents six months and older.”As we head into the fall season, getting immunized is one of the best ways we can keep each other safe,” Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said in a news release. “By protecting yourself, you are also protecting your family, friends and community from respiratory illness.” The province recommends people in high-risk groups should get vaccinated as soon as possible, including seniors, individuals with chronic illness or compromised immune systems, children under five, and pregnant women.In the news release, Saskatchewan Health Authority senior medical health officer Dr. Julie Kryzanowski encouraged everyone to get their vaccines as soon as possible. “Getting immunized early this fall is vital to protecting not only yourself, but your loved ones as well,” she said.Residents can make bookings for a group of up to six people online and over the phone using the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s patient booking portal. Residents have the option to receive both the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines during one vaccination appointment. Vaccines are available at public health clinics, participating local pharmacies and some physician and nurse practitioner offices. However, children between the ages of six months and five years can only receive vaccinations at a public health clinic or office, or from a physician or nurse practitioner. To book an appointment or access more information on the vaccines visit the SHA’s patient booking system at www.4flu.ca or call 1-833-727-5829 Monday to Friday.
