(Submitted by Doucette family)Michael Gamble says he was 19 years old and deep into the gang lifestyle when he fatally stabbed 33-year-old Morgan Doucette in a brawl at a 2009 house party on Avenue H South in Saskatoon.Gamble, now 35, pleaded guilty to manslaughter Friday at Court of King’s Bench. He was sentenced to six years.”It was a party, there were gang members involved, it was a gang situation, and there was a disagreement about gang lifestyle that resulted in a brawl between several people in an apartment house party,” his lawyer, Michael Nolin, said outside court.”By taking responsibility for his role in it, Mr. Gamble continues to extricate himself from his lifestyle that he was in when he was younger. Very hard to do.” Man charged with 2009 homicides in Saskatoon already serving sentence for murder Justice Mona Dovell accepted an agreed statement of facts at Gamble’s hearing on Friday. It said that the altercation happened in the kitchen of the Avenue H South house and involved a wide group of people drinking and doing drugs.”The scene was described as complete chaos, people everywhere in varying levels of intoxication, offering varying degrees of assistance and co-operation,” it said.Police eventually took 32 witness statements, but the stories changed over time as investigators tried to piece together what happened.Gamble’s co-accused pleaded guilty to being party to manslaughter and accessory after the fact.ABOUT THE AUTHORDan Zakreski is a reporter for CBC Saskatoon.
