(Dan Zakreski/CBC)Two members of the Saskatoon police tactical team fired earlier this month are appealing their dismissals. They join a third officer, a special constable, who is also appealing. All three were fired after allegations arising from an “off-duty gathering” in September 2024.CBC previously reported that the gathering was a hot tub party at the home of one of the tactical team officers. The gathering led to internal and external investigations concerning an alleged cop-on-cop assault, and concerns with the presence of an outlaw motorcycle gang member at a party where undercover officers were present.”The actions we’ve taken here today reflect our commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability, and demonstrate that no one is above the expectations of this organization or the trust placed in us by the community,” Police Chief Cam McBride said in a news release when the officers were fired. 3 Saskatoon police officers fired after investigation into ‘off-duty gathering’ Fired Saskatoon cop Robbie Taylor says he’s still mystified over grounds for dismissal Lawyer Steve Seiferling is representing the fired officers.”In firing two tactical team constables and a special constable, Chief Cam McBride claims that he made the only decision he could,” Seiferling said in a news release.”The facts will reveal the exact opposite. He has done the wrong thing. He has behaved precipitously; he has scapegoated three good officers and has acted inconsistently.”Seiferling said the three officers have reached out unsuccessfully to SPS.”All three have offered to attend a mediation, with a Saskatoon Police selected mediator, but all offers of mediation have been rejected by the Saskatoon Police. The three officers will present their case before an adjudicator as soon as hearing dates can be set,” he said.ABOUT THE AUTHORDan Zakreski is a reporter for CBC Saskatoon.
