(Arlyn McAdorey/The Canadian Press)Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after an e-cyclist struck and seriously injured another cyclist while being pursued by an Ottawa police officer earlier this month.According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), an officer in a marked Ottawa Police Service (OPS) cruiser attempted to stop two men who were “riding e-bikes at high speeds” in the area of Carling Avenue and Moodie Drive at 8:18 p.m. on Aug. 7.The men fled and were travelling down a bike path next to Carling when one of them struck another cyclist.The 28-year-old cyclist was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.The e-cyclists were not seriously injured, the SIU said.Ottawa police notified the SIU of the incident on Aug. 22. Three SIU investigators have been assigned to the case.The SIU is an independent agency that investigates police conduct in incidents where civilians are killed, seriously injured or allege sexual assault.
