(Government of New Brunswick)A small fire detected late Friday afternoon on Lamèque Island has been contained.The fire is estimated at 1,000 square metres.The provincial fire data dashboard reports 11 active wildfires in New Brunswick.One was classified as out of control:   Beaver Lake Stream in Northumberland County (456 hectares) Three fires are contained, meaning the flames were restricted withing a bulldozed break or wet line, according to the dashboard. Contained fires still have a possibility to escape the boundary.The 1,403-hectare Oldfield Road fire near Miramichi and the Chief’s fire in Northumberland County are classified as under control.The remaining five fires were being patrolled Saturday. This is the last stage before a fire is considered to be out.Weather and air conditionsEnvironment Canada has issued air quality statements for the Fundy National Park, Saint John and Saint John County. “Smoke from a wildfire in Annapolis County in Nova Scotia will reduce air quality downwind tonight and tomorrow across the Bay of Fundy,” the department said Saturday morning.Wind behaviours will determine local smoke conditions.According to Saturday’s forecast, rain starts the day in western parts of New Brunswick followed by cloudy skies across the province. Thundershowers are possible mid-afternoon and early evening.
