(New Westminster Police Department/Facebook)A 58-year-old Surrey man, and former goalie coach for a Coquitlam junior A hockey team, is facing three charges related to historical sexual offences.Ronald Veit is charged with sexual assault for incidents between September 2008 and May 2012 in Langley, Surrey, New Westminster, Coquitlam, and Burnaby, according to a New Westminster Police Department news release.Veit is also charged with sexual interference between September 2008 and May 2010 and sexual exploitation between May 2010 and May 2012.Sexual interference is an offence committed by someone who directly or indirectly touches someone under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose; sexual exploitation is an offence committed by someone who is in a position of trust or authority towards a young person.New West police noted the allegations have not been proven and the matter is now before the courts.“We encourage anyone with information that can assist in our ongoing investigation to come forward,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We understand the challenges victims face in reporting such incidents and want to reassure the public that we take these matters very seriously and resources and support are available.”Sgt. (CBC News)Veit has been released from court with a number of conditions, according to police, including not to possess any weapons and not to volunteer with anyone under 18 years old.He is not allowed to contact anyone under 18, unless they are in the presence of their parent or guardian, or “in the course of commercial interaction in a public place or skating rink.”Veit is also not allowed to attend parks, community centres, schools, or playgrounds with the exception of skating rinks where he may continue to coach hockey in the presence of other adults.Junior A hockey team the Coquitlam Express said it immediately terminated Veit’s employment after learning of the charges, according to a statement by the team posted on X.”While these charges are not related to his time with our organization, the safety and well-being of our players, families, and community remains our highest priority,” the team said.The Express said Veit is no longer affiliated with the team in any capacity and added the charges are new and were not detectable through a criminal record check, which it said all its staff are required to submit.Veit also owns a private goaltending coaching business. His hockey resume indicates he has trained 10 NHL goalies, including Carey Price, Dan Cloutier, Olaf Kolzig and Felix Potvin.The business website for Veit Goalie Schools says Veit has been involved with goaltending for more than 25 years.CBC News has reached out to Veit for comment but did not immediately hear back.
