(Travis Reddaway/CBC)A Saskatoon teen accused of setting a classmate on fire will stand trial in the spring.Prosecutor Ainsley Furlonger said the case against the 15-year-old will take place at Court of King’s Bench in two segments. The first block will begin May 4, 2026, and go to May 29. The second will go from June 15-26.The Crown is proceeding by direct indictment so there is no preliminary hearing. The teen chose trial by judge alone.She cannot be named because of her age but Furlonger has indicated that, if convicted, the Crown will seek an adult sentence.The indictment contains two charges: that the teen attempted to murder a classmate at Evan Hardy Collegiate by setting her on fire and that she caused bodily harm to the teacher who was injured when he tried to put out the fire.The incident happened in the first week of school in September 2024. The victim sustained burns to 40 per cent of her body after the accused allegedly poured a flammable liquid on her head and torso and lit her on fire in a hallway outside a classroom, just before lunch.WATCH | Teen girl lit on fire at high school tells her story for first time: Teen girl lit on fire at high school tells her story for first timeLast year, a 15-year-old was severely burned at Evan Hardy Collegiate in Saskatoon in an alleged attack by another student.
