(Mike Zimmer/CBC)A tourist was taken to hospital from North Vancouver’s Lynn Canyon Park on Monday, first responders say, after a 30-metre fall left her with serious injuries.North Vancouver RCMP say they are investigating how the woman — an American in her 50s — fell from the cliffside during a guided tour.RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mansoor Sahak said the woman was part of a group touring the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. She fell near the north side of the bridge around 12:30 p.m. PT.Sahak said falls from the area are not common — although people do get hurt jumping into the park’s waters — and police are looking into what happened.“That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” Sahak said. “It doesn’t happen often, but that area is known for incidents where people are injured.”Ryan Stewart with District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services said crews found the woman beyond a fence, “so it was off the trail system.”“A fall of 30 metres onto rocks is a very significant injury and [there’s] potential for fatality… For someone to survive that, I would say, there’s a hint of luck that’s involved.”WATCH | Surviving a Lynn Canyon cliff fall:Tourist survives 30-metre plunge off Lynn Canyon Park cliff: RCMPA tourist was taken to hospital from North Vancouver’s Lynn Canyon Park after she fell 30 metres from a cliffside. As Jessica Cheung reports, first responders are still trying to figure out how and why this happened. Stewart said the woman suffered a compound leg fracture, a head injury and “generally was in pretty rough shape.”Sahak said the woman is expected to survive and police are seeking witnesses.He added that Lynn Canyon Park visitors should respect out-of-bounds areas.“The District of North Van has gone to great lengths to educate the public about the dangers that are posed in that park, but frankly, we do get people every year who ignore the signs,” he said, while emphasizing it’s not clear yet if the injured woman ignored warning signs.With files from Jessica Cheung and Eden Chipperfield
