(Jeff Stapleton/CBC)Three people have been charged in connection with a string of thefts between spring and fall this year, both in Winnipeg and in communities in southern Manitoba.A 44-year-old man, a 47-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman have been charged with about 50 offences between them, after they were arrested following two police chases on Friday, according to a Winnipeg police news release on Monday.The first known incident was on May 29, when there was a report of an apartment break-in on Ballantrae Drive.Two weeks alter, on June 16, two suspects broke into a home on Park East Drive and stole a “large amount of jewellery which they pawned later that day,” according to police.A licence plate was stolen from a vehicle on Grant Avenue on July 10, and the next day two suspects stole more than $800 in merchandise from a retailer on Regent Avenue West..A 2021 GMC Sierra pickup truck was stolen in Morris, Man., on Aug. 12. Police say the truck was then used by two suspects to steal a trailer and a hot tub from a spa on Clifton Street in Winnipeg.A 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck was then stolen from a home in the rural municipality of De Salaberry on Aug. 29.On Aug. 31, a licence plate was stolen from a vehicle in Winnipeg on Carrigan Place, according to police.That same day, the stolen F-150 and the Sierra were used to steal two trailers loaded up with Lund fishing boats, worth an estimated $87,000, from a locked compound on Dugald Road, police say.Another Ford F-150, from 2015, was stolen on Sept. 4 or 5, and the vehicle was used to steal a travel trailer from a commercial lot on Dugald Road on Sept. 6, according to police.The 2015 F-150 was used to steal two Yamaha wave runners, estimated to be worth $35,000, on Sept. 9 from a commercial lot on Valde Drive, according to the release.Police say two suspects using the same stolen Ford used it to steal a utility trailer parked outside a hotel on Niakwa Road on Sept. 11 that contained an ATV, tools, camping gear, nine guns and “hundreds of rounds of ammunition.” On Friday, two separate police chases ensued after two of the stolen trucks were spotted.One chase led to the arrest of the 44-year-old, after police found the truck ditched off St. Anne’s Road. The other two were arrested off Highway 207, after police used a spike belt on Highway 1.The 47-year-old man faces 26 driving, property and probation violation offences, according to police. The 39-year-old woman faces charges for possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two charges of possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000.The 44-year-old man was charged with more than 20 offences, including flight from a police officer, vehicle theft, dangerous driving, dangerous driving while prohibited, unauthorized possession of a firearm, breaking and entering, and eight probation violations. He also had six warrants out for his arrest, police said.
