(Tom Ayers/CBC)Two people are dead and a third has serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Friday evening in Cape Breton.In a media release, Cape Breton Regional Police say they responded to a report of a crash near the 3000 block of Highway 28 in New Victoria at around 7 p.m.When officers arrived, they found one vehicle overturned in a ditch and another on the road. Both vehicles had extensive damage.A 74-year-old woman from New Victoria, who was driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 26-year-old man from Sydney, was taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital where he later died.A third person, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was also taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in serious condition and then airlifted to Halifax.Police say an investigation is underway.
