According to the RCMP a sedan and transport truck collided at around 4 a.m. on May 7 The Yukon RCMP are reporting two deaths in an Alaska Highway collision that took place in the early-morning hours of May 7 north of Teslin. A May 8 notice from the RCMP explains that a sedan collided head-on with a semi truck in the vicinity of highway kilometre marker 1267 at around 4 a.m. on May 7. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and one person is being treated for minor injuries. The Yukon RCMP communications team confirmed that both of the deceased were in the sedan. Responding to the collision along with the RCMP were the Yukon Coroner’s Service, a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement investigator and the Teslin Fire Department. The coroner’s service and the police are still investigating but according to the RCMP there is no evidence of criminality at this time. The collision led to the closure of the Alaska Highway from shortly after 4 a.m. until around 11 a.m. on May 7. The highway would eventually reopen to single-lane alternating traffic and then to traffic in both directions. In the May 8 statement the RCMP thanked the public for cooperation in avoiding the area of the collision and offered condolences to the families affected. Photos from the scene sent to the News after the highway had reopened show a badly-damaged vehicle being loaded onto a tow truck and a semi truck and trailer on its side in the ditch.
