(Bartley Kives/CBC)Two Waverley West residents have withdrawn an appeal against a new elementary school and daycare they initially said “will disturb the peace and quiet” of their south Winnipeg residential neighbourhood.Pembina Trails School Division plans to build a kindergarten to Grade 8 school and daycare south of Landover Drive, straddling the edge of the Bridgwater Trails and Prairie Pointe neighbourhoods. In an appeal letter dated Sept. 18, two residents opposed the city’s decision to approve the development, arguing it would cause traffic congestion in their neighbourhood, create excess noise and reduce the availability of parking. The appeal prompted the provincial education minister to comment last week that she had never seen anyone oppose a school before. The appeal was withdrawn Tuesday, according to Winnipeg city council’s legislative website. A hearing slated for Wednesday won’t proceed.
