I think it’s important to be open and make the most of it.”Article contentSince the Loran Scholars Foundation places a lot of importance on character, service, leadership and extracurricular involvement, Ella is keen to meet lots of people from across Canada with a diverse range of interests and passions.Article contentArticle contentShe plans to start off in a general science program and later focus on neuroscience.Article contentArticle contentBorn just outside Montreal, Ella has a strong background in French.Article contentHomeschooled for a time, she led Horton’s mental health club, served as mental health chair on student council, and represented her school on the regional student advisory committee.Article contentElla says she’s happy to know that there are students at Horton in the fall who plan to continue some of the initiatives she started.Article content“That will be beneficial and should make a difference.”Article contentIn her community, Ella organized recreational activities at a retirement home, oversaw a positivity program she established for local seniors, and visited long-term care patients. She also volunteered with Girl Guides and served as a junior leader and member of the Terranaut Club, which offers STEM programming for girls. STEM is an educational program that fosters female interest in science, technology, engineering and math.
