Article contentArticle contentAt approximately 5:10 p.m. on Aug. 27, Pictou County District RCMP received reports of an armed man outside a residence on Munroe Avenue. Upon arrival on the scene, they located a man holding an axe in one hand and a firearm in the other, on Westville Road. Article contentArticle contentThe firearm was pointed at one of the responding officers before the man was safely arrested. Article contentThe firearm was quickly identified as a BB gun. Article contentFurther investigation indicates the man pointed the BB gun at passing motorists and, as a precaution, the Pictou County Wellness Centre was on lockdown for a short period. Article contentNo injuries had been reported to the RCMP as of Aug. 29. Article contentAs part of the continued investigation, officers searched Oakes’ homes and seized an unsecured rifle. Article contentWhile officers have spoken to a number of witnesses and victims, it’s believed there are other members of the public whom Oakes may have also pointed his firearm at. Pictou County RCMP are asking that anyone who may be a witness, including those who may have video footage and haven’t spoken to police yet, to come forward as the investigation continues.
