(Natural Wellness Chiropractic Centre/Facebook)A Winnipeg chiropractor accused of filming patients with cameras disguised as sprinkler heads has pleaded guilty to voyeurism.Dr. Robert Stitt, 67, gave his guilty plea to one count of voyeurism before Manitoba provincial court Judge Mark Kantor in a Winnipeg courtroom on Wednesday. The single charge he pleaded guilty to relates to offences that took place between Nov. 29, 2023, and Jan. 1, 2024, and involved eight female victims, court heard. He had originally faced seven other counts of voyeurism, but those other charges were stayed on Wednesday.”By pleading guilty, you are admitting to the allegation?” Richard Wolston, Stitt’s lawyer, asked him during the court hearing.”Yes,” Stitt replied. The Crown sought a summary conviction proceeding for Stitt, which carries a maximum penalty of six months and/or a $2,000 fine for voyeurism. He was charged after a year-long investigation by Winnipeg police that included a search of his Portage Avenue office, after the Manitoba Chiropractors Association alerted them about concealed cameras inside, said a court-filed application previously reviewed by CBC News. The chiropractors’ association notified authorities about the hidden cameras after one of its investigators went to Stitt’s office in the course of looking into a separate complaint, according to search warrant documents previously reviewed by CBC News.Holes in the ceilings of treatment rooms were still visible inside Stitt’s vacant office on Portage Avenue in December 2024. Winnipeg police removed five cameras disguised as sprinkler heads, according to a list of property seized filed in court. There is no sprinkler system in the building. (Gary Solilak/CBC)Stitt showed the investigator video recordings that he claimed would “exonerate himself of any wrongdoing,” according to the court documents.”While browsing the video files on the hard drive, [the investigator] observed there to be upwards of three different and unknown females disrobing. One of the females was facing the camera with her breasts exposed,” an affidavit said.Police seized five fake sprinkler heads that concealed cameras, plus a recording device in a suspended ceiling at the Natural Wellness Chiropractic Centre in January 2024, the search warrant documents say.In December 2024, holes were still visible in the treatment room ceilings of Stitt’s then-vacant office. There was no sprinkler system in the building at that point.Last year, the Manitoba Chiropractors Association said Stitt’s licence was suspended in January 2024 and would remain so until the matter was dealt with in court. He will be sentenced at a later date.ABOUT THE AUTHORÖzten Shebahkeget is a member of Northwest Angle 33 First Nation who grew up in Winnipeg’s North End.
