(Kevin Nepitabo/CBC)Two people are facing multiple drug-trafficking charges after Winnipeg police seized more than $50,000 worth of street-level fentanyl pressed into enticing candy-like shapes, which officials warn could be potentially lethal to anyone who ingests them. While executing a search warrant in the West Broadway neighbourhood earlier this month, officers seized 134 grams of processed fentanyl with an estimated street value of $53,600, Winnipeg Police Service Const. Pat Saydak said at a Friday news conference. Most of the 134 grams of processed fentanyl had been moulded into “enticing shapes” resembling candy, such as dinosaurs, stars and butterflies — a first for drug enforcement officers in Winnipeg, said Saydak.Police also seized five grams of unprocessed fentanyl that could be turned into about 5,000 doses using mixing or cutting agents, with an estimated street value of $200,000, according to Saydak. It was the biggest fentanyl seizure the unit has ever seen, he said.  Const. Pat Saydak says Winnipeg residents should call police if they encounter fentanyl that has been pressed into candy-like shapes like dinosaurs and stars. (Kevin Nepitabo/CBC)Police also found mixing/cutting agents, rubber moulds, scales, drug packaging, a Taser with six cartridges, pepper spray and $235 in Canadian currency. A 39-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on Wednesday and have been charged with multiple drug trafficking, weapons and firearms-related offences, according to police. Saydak said both individuals were previously known to police. They were both released on an undertaking. Police warned that two micrograms — the equivalent of two grains of salt — of fentanyl could be a potentially lethal dose. When the drug has been pressed into designer shapes, “you never know how much is in there,” said Saydak.”This stuff is really dangerous,” he said. “It could be potentially very, very lethal to anybody that takes it or even comes into contact with it.” Winnipeg police are encouraging anyone who sees similar items to call the non-emergency line at 204-986-6222, or to call 911 if you have ingested the candy-like drugs and are in medical crisis. With files from Justin Fiacconi
