(Tyson Koschik/CBC)Winnipeg Transit will be extending its evening hours next year after late-night commuters raised concerns that bus service ends too early to get them home at the end of the day. Funding for later transit service will be worked on during 2026 budget discussions, the city said in a news release on Thursday. Winnipeg Transit received mostly negative feedback from the public a month after it launched a major route overhaul in June.At the time, Bjorn Radstrom, the transit service’s manager of service development, said they received one positive response for every 100 complaints. Some Winnipeggers, especially those who live in the suburbs or work late-night shifts, said routes that end earlier in the evening have made it harder for them to get to their destinations. Council members and Winnipeg Transit staff are discussing ways to extend service in 2026, and Mayor Scott Gillingham and Coun. Janice Lukes, chair of the public works committee, committed to working on expanded evening service.Winnipeg Transit is expected to present a formal plan to council by November, the news release said.CBC News has reached out to the city for more information about the extended bus service but did not receive an immediate response.More from CBC Manitoba:
