(Kevin Nepitabo/CBC)Several streets in Winnipeg’s downtown will be closed this weekend as the city makes room for two big celebrations.Portage Avenue will be closed both directions from St. Mary Ave. to Main St. at 11 a.m. Saturday for the annual Santa Claus parade, the city said in a news release Thursday afternoon.Cross streets within the area will have limited access to Portage, the release said. The following streets will also close beginning at 11 a.m.:Southbound Main St. between McDermot Ave. and York Ave.Portage Ave. East from Westbrook St to Main St.Westbound St. Mary Ave. from Edmonton St. to Memorial Blvd.Eastbound York Ave. from Colony St. to Memorial.Osborne St. North/Memorial/Colony from Broadway to Ellice Ave.All the closures will be lifted by 10 p.m. Northbound Main St. will also close from William Stephenson Way to Portage briefly late afternoon to let the parade cross Main Street, the city said.The City of Winnipeg’s online lane closures map with filters set to only show street closures beginning and ending Saturday.
