(Radio-Canada)A woman was stabbed during a fight at a north Winnipeg home while trying to protect a pregnant woman from a man armed with a knife, police say.The two women and the man were at a mutual friend’s house in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue — between Andrews and Aikins streets, in the William Whyte neighbourhood — around 2 p.m. Friday when an argument broke out between the man and the pregnant woman, Winnipeg police said in a news release. When the argument escalated, the man armed himself with a knife and tried to stab the visibly pregnant woman, according to police.The other woman stepped in to protect the pregnant woman, and she and the attacker fell to the ground through a broken handrail, where the defender was stabbed, police said.Two men who were inside the house intervened and held the armed man down until officers arrived to arrest him, police said. He continued to act in “an aggressive manner” during his arrest, according to police.The woman who was stabbed was taken to hospital in stable condition. The pregnant woman wasn’t physically harmed.The 50-year-old man was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and detained in custody, police said.More from CBC Manitoba:
