Staff at the hospital were concerned about the possibility of impaired operation and contacted police.Article contentArticle contentArticle contentOfficers located Penunsi at the hospital. She showed signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation. She was provided with a demand for a blood sample to confirm impairment by alcohol or drugs, however, she refused to comply.Article contentPenunsi’s driver’s license was suspended, and her vehicle was seized and impounded. She was released from custody and is expected to appear in court on Nov. 20, 2025 to answer to criminal charges of failure or refusal to comply with a demand.Article contentRefusing to comply with a demand issued as part of an impaired operation investigation is a criminal offence. If convicted, this offence carries the same penalties as a charge of impaired operation.Article contentRCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks the hospital staff who reported their concerns.
