(Gary Moore/CBC file photo)Fredericton police say they have arrested the youth who was allegedly the source of threats against seven schools in New Brunswick on Tuesday.Five schools in Fredericton, one in Oromocto and one in Moncton were evacuated in the morning and students sent home.The youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, allegedly made a bomb threat against all seven schools. David McTimoney, the superintendent of the Anglophone West School District, said he learned of the threat at 7 a.m. Tuesday.”The threat came in the form of an email addressed to a number of different schools, in particular to six different schools within Anglophone West, and it made reference to bombs surrounding the school on site,” McTimoney said.Fredericton police assessed the threat and after conversations with the schools, it was decided to close them at about 7:30 a.m., McTimoney said.Police investigated, and the schools were deemed safe at 10:40 a.m.WATCH | Emergency situation closes 7 schools in N.B. :7 N.B. schools remain closed, police say no threat to public safetySeven schools in Fredericton, Oromocto and Moncton were closed Tuesday morning because of an “emergency situation” or “concerning messages.” The schools that had to close were Fredericton High School, George Street Middle School, Nashwaaksis Middle School, Leo Hayes High School, Barker’s Point Elementary School, all in Fredericton, and Assiniboine Avenue Elementary School in Oromocto.Arnold H. McLeod School in Moncton also received a threat, and RCMP said around noon that the school was safe but would stay closed the rest of the day.”Further investigation determined that threats made to schools outside Fredericton’s jurisdiction were also traced back to the same individual,” said a news release from Fredericton police.Anglophone West and East school districts both said the schools will be open on Wednesday. Students headed homeIn a letter to families from Randolph MacLean, Anglophone East School District superintendent, bus students at the Moncton school could be picked up at an evacuation site at Lewisville Church. According to updates from Anglophone West School District, buses were redirected to temporary locations, where staff were present to supervise students. The buses were taking students home from the temporary locations.Leo Hayes, Nashwaaksis and Barker’s Point students were sent to Gibson-Neill Memorial Elementary School. Fredericton High, and George Street students were sent to Bliss Carman Middle School and Assiniboine Avenue students have been sent to Gesner Street Elementary.Staff were trying to contact “every family with a child in Grade 6 or younger to confirm plans and ensure each student is safely released,” the district said.
